This is an HD comparison between the UK dvd edition and UK blu ray edition of Wild At Heart.
I will post a film review of this sometime in the future but for now let me say i am happy with the image quality of this blu ray edition, i am concerned about the sound mix though, let me clarify that, the sound is good but i have a niggling concern over the dialogue, whenever someone talks we get sound through all three front speakers instead of just the center channel, this happens on both the MGM dvd and blu ray editions, i have been informed that the USA dvd edition had a mild echo effect with dialogue at a much lower volume from the left and right speakers, until an American blu ray is released i will reserve full judgment regarding the dialogue.
I have checked the dvd and blu ray editions carefully and believe both are derived from the same master, David Lynch approved the master used but as already said above, i am unsure about the sound mix, it may well be that Lynch wants the dialogue spread across the three front channels, sound effects are heard from individual speakers so maybe the dialogue was intentionally mixed across the three front speakers, the music score sounds superb so my concerns may be unwarranted.
Bear in mind film grain in static form as shown in the images below may to the untrained eye look like it is obscuring detail, it does not, when in motion it enhances the image and adds to the detail levels you see, on a calibrated set it looks film like and beautiful and this should be noted when you view the images.
The first image is the dvd edition, rollover your mouse to see the blu ray edition and simply mouse on and off to compare the differences.
