There is wonderful use of lighting in this film, you can see an example in the image to the right, the director of photography was Charles Lang, he had worked with Audrey Hepburn before on the film Sabrina and would work with her again on Paris When It Sizzles, How To Steal A Million and Wait Until Dark, Lang had been in the industry many years and was an experienced DP, his work on Charade is not his best but it is very good.

If this film was made by any other director it would probably not have been as effective, John Woo brings his unique style to Face/Off, this involves some truly amazing action set pieces which were filmed without the aid of CGI and are all the better for it, just some good old fashioned stuntwork and this keeps you hooked and has you enthralled in the onscreen mayhem that unfolds before your very eyes.

Filmed in a real abandoned cabin in the woods, the film was shot in Tennessee after unsuccessful attempts to find a cabin in Michigan, the cabin used had to undergo extensive work as it was in poor condition.

Jodie Foster was aided in her research for the role by FBI agent Mary Ann Krause, Krause told Foster that sometimes the work is so overbearing that a good cry can help with the stress the job brings. They show this in one scene where Starling cries while standing by her car.
