Blu Ray Screencaps of Rio Bravo.
Johny Waynes classic western gets a reasonable release on blu ray, it could have been better though, you can read my thoughts about the transfer by clicking here.
The problem with this release is its re-using a transfer optimized for HD DVD and comes in at around 23GB, thats low for a film running around 2 hours and twenty minutes long, with the extra content the disc comes in at around 28GB, perfect for HD DVD capacity but under utilizing the extra space available on blu ray, Warner try to keep the bitrate very low in a number of scenes, i believe to do this they needed to filter out some of the film grain and along with it some of the high frequency image detail, sometimes the bitrate drops to under 13mbp/s, usually it is higher than this, but in the problematic street and barn shootout, the bitrate averages out at around 16mbp/s and drops lower during some moments of that scene.
Its not all bad news, there are a number of scenes where the film grain is better resolved and seems intact, for those scenes the bitrate is higher and image detail improved. My blu ray film review of Rio Bravo which you can click above will tell you more.
