Blu Ray Screencaps of Dead Snow.
Norwegian medical students head off to a snowy mountain cabin to rest, relax, ski a little and have some fun, unfortunately for them they have picked a favourite location for zombies to picnic and they're on the menu.
The Nazi Zombies in this film can run fast use binoculars and are after stolen treasure that they looted in World War II.
This is more comedy/horror territory than outright horror, it features lots of gore and straight faced deadpan humour, not to be taken seriously but it's enjoyable if you like this sort of thing. ( i do )
The onscreen title of the movie is Død Snø and you get english subtitles to go with the Norwegian language DTS HD Master Audio 5.1 track, don't let the subtitles put you off as it's a good movie.
Tommy Wirkola is the film's director.
Regarding image quality i am disappointed to find this disc has been mastered at 25fps instead of the usual 24fps and as a result it runs approx four minutes faster than the cinema release, i wondered if they had shot this film on digital cameras and then added film grain later although IMDB lists the movie as being shot in 35mm.
When capturing the frames for this post i noted issues with motion and grain smoothing out every second frame. This wasn't a major problem when watching the film.
I noticed some issues which were also evident during playback on a couple of scenes although the majority of the film was fine, this may be related to how the disc was authored and how my Oppo player is set up for playback. The problem which i saw in a couple of scenes looked like a de-interlacing combing issue. I found this strange but it wasn't a huge deal for me.
My Oppo blu ray player reports PAL as the playback format when viewing the film, and thus it's no surprise playback is reported to be 25fps, i did wonder during the opening moments of the film if i was watching upscaled PAL content but i'll let the images below speak for themselves.
The sound mix was good, especially the latter half of the film which had some effective surround sound when the zombies try to get into the cabin, bass was plentiful although i felt it was a touch unrefined, speech was easy to hear and overall i felt the sound quality was decent.
The disc is region coded B. The USA release plays back at 24fps and image quality looks identical.
