Blu Ray Screencaps of Armageddon.
A giant asteroid is going to hit Earth and only a miracle can save us all, NASA devises a plan to drill a deep hole inside the asteroid and place a nuclear device to blow it off the collision course, enter Harry Stamper and his team of oil drillers who must quickly train as astronauts and face the huge pressure of knowing the fate of the world rests in their hands.
Bay movies often get criticised but i like his work, The Rock remains my favourite of his but this is a close second, I like the sci-fi action and the whole saving the planet scenario.
Bay originally wanted Sean Connery to play Harry Stamper but Connery turned the part down and chose instead to do The Avengers, Bay then turned to Bruce Willis who accepted the role.
Armageddon is a very exciting sci-fi movie, some people take this film far too seriously and look too closely at the real science rather than enjoying the make believe aspects of the film, forget about the science and just sit back and relax and enjoy the fun.
The original master copy of this film was destroyed in a fire which meant a delay in releasing this film on blu ray, they went to Criterion who had released a directors cut of the film many years ago on DVD, unfortunately they found that particular print was not in the best shape so ultimately ended up using the theatrical cut from Michael Bay's own personal collection.
I miss the scene in the directors cut between Harry Stamper and his father before he goes into orbit, that moment is touching and should have been in the theatrical edition of the film.
The image quality on this release is superb, very deep inky blacks and a tremendous amount of detail in the image, Bay loves film grain and this film alternates between sharper footage to softer lensed footage, light grain to heavier grain and i do love this type of cinematography a lot.
The sound mix is inventive with some very good use made of the rear split surround channels, indeed the channel panning between all the speakers is superb, the mix has plenty of deep bass and i found speech to be clear and easy to understand.
I really enjoyed re-visiting this movie in high definition and the movie screencaps below should hopefully show some of the quality of this transfer which i feel represents the original cinematic look of the film. View blu ray screencaps of Armageddon below. Click twice for the full HD image.
