Blu Ray releases in North America this week include a new remastered edition of Dirty Dancing which seems to improve on the old transfer, the old edition is on my major issues list and had a huge number of issues, this release looks to retain the original grain structure and seems to have fixed many of the old editions problems.
David Leans classic Doctor Zhivago is released by Warner and we get the directors cut of Elektra, i hope an unrated Live Free Or Die Hard follows soon.
The disappointing sequel Escape From L.A. with Kurt Russell once again playing Snake Plissken is also released this week.
Steven Spielberg's Oscar winning World War II movie Saving Private Ryan is finally released, i have already received this and hope to post some blu ray screencaps within the next week.
In the United Kingdom we get the classic series The Avengers – Season 4 and the very disappointing remake of cult sixties show The Prisoner, i feel this is a very pale imitation of the original, the music score is forgettable as is the actual plot of this updated version.
France gets a release of Rob Roy with Liam Neeson, Tim Roth and Jessica Lange and A History Of Violence is also released in France, its the uncut edition and i'm hoping its a superior edition to previous releases that have suffered excessive DNR, indeed just like the aforementioned Dirty Dancing, this one can be found on the blu ray major issues list here.
In Germany a number of classic Charlie Chaplin movies released with the original english subtitles.
