A remake of A Nightmare On Elm Street is out soon.
Freddy Krueger returns but this time he will be played by Jackie Earle Haley, whether Robert Englund will be missed remains to be seen but he will be a hard act to follow. It looks like the film is getting back to basics and dropping the silliness of the later entries of the original film series.
Tag lines for the movie are He Knows Where You Sleep and Welcome To Your New Nightmare, hardly original but who cares if the film delivers some chills. The plot looks like it follows the original film closely and revolves around a group of teenagers all suffering bad dreams in which they are stalked by Freddy.
The original film featured Johnny Depp and spawned countless sequels including a Friday the 13th tie up called Freddy vs Jason, merchandise included clawed gloves and Freddy dolls and sequels were made every year until the box office failed to deliver for the studio.
Platinum Dunes are behind this new remake, they also made great remakes of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre and Friday The 13th but not so great remakes of The Amityville Horror and The Hitcher. The remake of Friday The 13th improved on every aspect of the original film although that opinion is not shared by everyone.
Horror remakes are all the rage right now with many in the works such as The Thing, Stephen Kings IT, ( looking forward to that one ) Child's Play, Re-Animator 3D, Poltergeist, ( please don't ) Suspiria, ( once again don't do it ) and Hellraiser. I think remakes should only be made if they add something new to the mix otherwise why bother.
