Blu Ray Screencaps of L.A. Confidential.
As is typical with Warner releases this is a region free release and it's likely to be the same encode used on all releases throughout the world.
L.A. Confidential was originally pitched as a television mini series and then a weekly television show before finally being made into a feature film. Izabella Scorupco had come to the attention of Hollywood thanks to her wonderful turn in Goldeneye and was offered the lead female role but turned it down, Kim Basinger took the part and the rest is history as she would go on to win an Oscar.
Other actresses who turned down the lead role include Jennifer Jason Leigh, Angelica Huston and Julia Louis Dreyfus. It's likely many other actresses also turned it down before Basinger accepted. Many of the events in the movie were based on things which really happened although the names have been changed.
This is a gripping movie with a fantastic script and i think all the actors shine in their respective roles, i personally don't think any actor gives a bad performance in this film. I felt image quality was mostly good and true to the source, the opening Warner logo looks terrible but once that is past the film itself has a lot of detail and looks film like. Throughout the running time i noticed small specks on the print but they were barely visible and not an issue to me, some people might be annoyed by them.
The sound quality is ok but really nothing special although dialogue, sound effects and the music score all sounded reasonable but i must stress this is a front heavy dialogue driven movie which only occasionally comes to life such as during the final shootout scenes. The disc had a music only track and that's something i would like to see more of and I hope Alien has the alternate music only track which was on the original DVD when it finally hits blu ray.
The pilot for the television series starring Kiefer Sutherland is included on the disc as well as a host of other extra's including commentaries, poor quality trailers and making of features but i just glanced at them as i prefer bloopers or deleted scenes and this disc had none.
There is deliberate softness in some scenes and an example of this is frame 6.
