Robert Rodriguez is producing the new Predator movie which is simply called Predators.
The title of the film has two meanings, one refers to the human predators that have been brought to a planet the predators use as hunting grounds and the other is of course the predators themselves.
The human characters will consist of a special ops sniper, a Sierra Leone death squad officer, a Russian commando, a drug cartel enforcer, a ninja hitman and a hard as nails prison inmate as well as a physician serial killer ( that guy gave me a checkup yesterday – now i know why it was torture )
Adrien Brody will play the leader of the group who is an american mercenary soldier. Note how films these days must contain a wide mixture of different nationalities since the studio thinks it will have broader appeal, personally it just reeks of unoriginality but i'll probably enjoy the film anyways.
This time there will also be predator dogs.
The film will also feature a super dark predator who is the meanest bad ass predator ever.
The film itself had a 53 day shoot with 22 days in the jungles of Hawaii and so far the news seems to be that it will be a full blooded R rated movie.
Rodriguez is a long time fan of the original film and wrote his script way back in the early nineties and only now has Twentieth Century Fox revisited it in an attempt to reboot the franchise.
The original script for Predators had Arnold Schwarzennegers Dutch on the Predators homeworld living in a cave having survived ten years of being hunted. Fortunately despite Schwarzenneger making a cameo appearance in Sylvester Stallones upcoming The Expendables he will not be appearing in Predators, i think that's good news because having Dutch killed off so cheaply in a cameo role would insult the memory of the original Predator movie.
Laurence Fishburne is taking the role of a man who has survived years on a planet the Predators use as hunting grounds and he has evaded Predators the entire time.
The film opens in America on July 9th so the studio must be pleased with the finished movie to release it in the summertime, of course whether the public like it is another thing.
