Blu Ray Screencaps of Casino Royale.

Casino Royale was a new beginning for the Bond franchise as we left the Brosnan era and got back to basics, out went the gadgets, Q and Miss Moneypenny and the movie is better for it. This is not the first time they have re-booted the franchise and some people may remember Timothy Dalton in Licence To Kill which also had a grittier Bond. If you go back over the franchise you can actually see that early outings for each actor always have a more sensible running time and have usually been better scripted than the later entries which are filled with gadgets and run just a little too long.

You could look at Sean Connery and see that Dr No and especially From Russia With Love are less bloated or silly than some of the later ones such as Thunderball or Diamonds are Forever. Roger Moore in Live and Let Die is a more basic Bond than the overblown Moonraker or A View To A Kill even if the script was not the best. Brosnan's first two entries, Goldeneye and Tomorrow Never Dies are far more entertaining than the bloated The World Is Not Enough or the gadget filled silly second half of Die Another Day.

I hope Daniel Craig does not suffer this issue which seems to happen with Bond movies. His next movie as 007 may be filmed in 3D. I would like them to keep the grittier nature of the recent films and i don't want a return of the gadgets or Q branch.

Casino Royale is one of my favourite Bond movies and it also features one of the best Bond girls in Eva Green. Daniel Craig came to my attention in Road To Perdition and i have seen him in many movies since then, including Spielbergs Munich.  Daniel is a fine actor and i would say the finest actor since Connery to take on the role. He will have a future outside of Bond when he decides to quit the role.

Director Martin Campbell supervised this transfer and i feel it's a very good transfer. The audio is PCM 5.1 at 4.6mbp/s and is an exciting sound mix although i personally do not think it is as good a sound mix as Quantum of Solace.

This is the Australian Uncut edition of the film which adds a little more violence deemed too explicit for the PG-13 rating in America. This edition runs 144m 34s. Click here for information about what is restored in this edition over the PG-13 version. Click here for what is restored over the UK edition which ran longer than the North American release. You can use Google translate on both pages. This is a region free release. Frame 1 features the opening black & white scenes while frame 8 features the end of a fight scene which was watered down for PG-13 versions of the film. Frame 2 features a newspaper closeup allowing you to read the headlines and frames 11 and 13 show some nice closeup detail.

Check out frame 14 and notice how beautiful Eva Green's eyes are. You may also like to view our Eva Green picture gallery here.
